Objectives

The key objectives for this project were to:

  • Collaborate with Rands Textile to ensure a smooth clearance process.
  • Safely remove machinery deemed unfit for sale.
  • Deliver machinery to Ribbons Textiles within the planned timeframe.

Project Description

SKH Machine Removers & Son Ltd was engaged by Rands Textile to assist with the full factory clearance of Marathon Belting. After evaluating the site and providing a quote, our team coordinated with Rands Textile to schedule the work to minimize disruption, leading to a three-month operation from December 2024 to February 2025.

Key Phases of the Project:

1. Planning and Coordination:

  • Worked closely with Rands Textile to establish available dates for the clearance.
  • Developed a timeline and task list to sequentially remove equipment, starting with smaller items.

2. Initial Site Clearance:

  • Began by removing smaller machinery and equipment that were no longer needed, ensuring a clean work environment.
  • Leveraged our expertise to evaluate the condition of machines and identify those unfit for sale.

3. Machinery Removal:

  • Removal of Smaller Looms: Utilized a 3-ton forklift to safely remove five smaller looms. These were then delivered to Ribbons Textiles using a low loader.
  • Removal of 5-Ton Looms: Employed our 7-ton forklift to extract two larger looms, following the same delivery process with our low loader.

4. Heavy Machinery Clearance:

  • Extraction of 8-Ton Trinka Machines: For the removal of two large 8-ton Trinka machines, we utilized our 7-ton forklift with additional counterweights. This meticulous operation required careful maneuvering through a narrow door.
  • Transportation of Electrical Cabinets: Skated out two 20ft electrical cabinets and loaded them onto the 23-foot bed of our crane wagon.

5. Delivery Process:

  • Both the machinery and cabinets were transported to Ribbons Textiles in South Wales. Unloading and positioning of the equipment was done with precision, utilizing our expertise in machinery placement.

Challenges Faced

  • Site Constraints: Navigating narrow doorways with heavy equipment presented logistical challenges.
  • Scheduling Coordination: Aligning the operational schedule with Rands Textile’s workflow required careful planning.
  • Heavy Lifting Operations: The removal of large and heavy machinery necessitated specialized equipment and skilled operators.

Results

  • Completed the factory clearance project on schedule, facilitating a smooth transition for Rands Textile.
  • Successfully removed and delivered all specified machinery, adhering to safety regulations throughout the process.
  • Received positive feedback from Rands Textile regarding the professionalism and efficiency of our team.
